Ungrey: A Colorful Artwork of a Home

A Private Apartment in Mumbai

The design of the private apartment in Mumbai, known as Ungrey, challenges the prevailing trend of grey interiors and embraces a colorful and artistic approach. Designed by Prashant Chauhan, this unique space showcases the power of color blocking as the main design feature.

Unlike traditional interior designs, Ungrey required working with the existing flooring and walls, which were transformed with a microcement layer. The space was marked with various forms and colors, and meticulous color blocking was executed on both the walls and the floor.

The process involved cleaning the space and marking all proposed forms to ensure precise execution according to the drawings. The micro-cement layer was then coated in a variety of colors and polished with a protective coating, resulting in a stunning and durable finish.

One of the main challenges faced during the project was preparing the existing floor to make it adhesive to the microcement. Achieving the right colors for the color blocking was also a significant task. Additionally, the bar unit and credenza unit were factory-made to complement the overall design.

Completed in a span of 8 months, Ungrey stands as a testament to the creative vision and technical expertise of the design team. The use of color blocking not only adds a vibrant and dynamic element to the space but also creates a unique and personalized environment for the client.

Ungrey has been recognized for its outstanding design and has been awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category.
